Traditional real estate offices typically charge a commission rate to list your property.  This rate could be as high as 6%.  The traditional realty generally offers half of that listing commission (3%) as commission cooperation on MLS to any Realtor that sells the property.  When the property is sold by the buyer's agent, that agent/office receives the 3% and the listing agent/office takes in 3% (even though it was the buyer's agent that sold the property).
